Help! I need to calculate the area of odd shapes

I need to trace odd-shaped objects (brain structures) and know what the area of the objects are. I'm looking for something that can maybe count pixels of an lasso-selected area.

Is there anything out there that does this? Any script-fu that calculates the area of odd-shapes is of interest to me.

I need this to finish my thesis! Aieeeee!

Hi Bonnie -

Yes, there is a pretty easy way to do what you want.

1. Make your selection 2. Create a new transparent layer
3. Fill your selection on that transparent layer with some color (e.g., white).
4. With that layer active, /Histogram and read off the number of pixels directly.

It might be possible to do this in a script-fu as well, but I'm not clear how to get the results back to you. It's fairly quick by hand.
