Gimp 2.10.22 Does not Export files

Gimp 2.10.22 Does not Export files
I am attempting to export a file as a jpg using export or Export As. I have tried to export as a png and changing the extension to a jpg file format. In either case, when I select the Export button, I get the pop up window to adjust settings for the file. When I select Export again I get an error message saying it could not open the file for saving. No such file or directory exists. The directory I use is the same as where the gimp file exists and, of course, the file does not exist because I am trying to create it.
