Text Along Path: Keeps tying to corner of my canvas

Can someone tell me why in the wide world of sports gimp is deciding to do this when I try to Text Along Path? I'd appreciate any help; nothing makes my blood boil like software.

As you can see from the image, I have a path that the letters are beginning to follow, but then it just decides the corner of my canvas is incredibly vital to the completion of this function. I painstakingly lined up this curve exactly how I needed it, and clicking up in the corner of the canvas was not one of the steps I took in the creation process. It has also done this on two separate paths I've created on this canvas. I've also tried making my text much smaller in case it was a sizing issue; does the same thing. Hope someone is familiar with this issue, and thanks in advance.

If the "guide" path had a point at 0,0, the "M" would have been distorted. So either there is a bug or your text path has a nasty point. Can you share your picture (need only the two paths in it)?

I have seen this one before. Old version of Gimp and the text is too long for the path.

This Gimp 2.8.4 in a WinXP http://i.imgur.com/IF4YuRX.jpg

This Gimp 2.8.14 in a Win7 http://i.imgur.com/sMuVFJ6.jpg

Can't recall when it was fixed. 2.8.8 maybe

Sure; here's close-ups of the paths when selected. Both of these paths do this with two different word instances being used. Halp meh! :P

Thanks for the heads up. I'll test it further, however I'm pretty sure that isn't it. I have 2.8 and I thought this might have been the case before posting, so I repathed the text after significantly lowering the font size and no dice. I'll try it again for giggles to see.

Confirmed. Just made font super small and tried again. Same thing, even with tons and tons of room for the letters.

Sorry for multiple posts but I see no edit function :-/ I do have 2.8.14 on Win 7. However, it seemed that 2.8.8 is an older version? Is it a more stable version? I'm willing to revert to it, but I really hope my current work is compatible with it.

A couple more tests and the problem is still there in Win7 and Gimp 2.8.14, so no point in changing your installation.

It does seem to be dependent on the font and the text dialog is one thing not seen in your screenshots.

This one where the text is truncated because the path is too short for the text. http://i.imgur.com/I0l7Nde.jpg using aharoni bold

This one where the path flies off to the corner of the canvas. http://i.imgur.com/HHnJXKo.jpg using sans bold

It is the length of the text rather than the size although obviously two very large characters might exceed the length of the path. Try and size the path to the text rather than the other way around.

I will take that last one back.
Not even the font, all to do with the line of text longer than the path and where a character meets the end of the path.

More examples. Looks like from your screenshots that there is a large baseline setting in effect so I added this.

Spacing hits between characters. http://i.imgur.com/YaEQRe5.jpg text path 'truncated'

Spacing hits a character. text path 'flies off'.

Back to make the path long enough for the text

It turned out to be the size of the text dialogue box and not even the letters or font at all. Once I shrunk down the text box to just fit around the word, which was considerably shorter than the path, it worked perfectly fine. Thank you for going out of your way to help me. I don't think I would have thought of making those boxes smaller if not for your posts.

I meant the XCF with the paths in it. But in between Rich has found a solution.
