FEATURE SUGGESTION: grouping layers

Much apologies if this is not a good place to make feature suggestions, in which case someone please show me the way.

I suggest having the ability to group layers, such that operations performed on the group would act on all the layers in that group simultaneously. This would allow making a whole bunch of items (each on their own layer), then moving/re-sizing/whatever the whole group of layers. I don't know, what do y'all think? Is there already a way to do this?

Apparently *someone* understood a mildly humorous reply as an arrogant one, so just in case here is a regular reply:

You can already use grouped layers since unstable v2.7.1. Current unstable builds for Windows are available from partha.com.
