How to install? -- was How to despeckle?

I would recommend you to donwload & install the 'GREYCstoration'
plug-in
from the Gimp plug-in page. It does a much better job than the Gimp's
own 'Despeckle'
filter. After installing it, you can find the plug-in under
'Filters > Enhance > GREYCstoration...'
For a start, I would set 'Strength' to maybe 25 or so & leave the
other options as they are.
Thanks very much for the pointer. I went to the link you mentioned,
which advised me:
This plug-in has been superseded by the G'MIC plug-in for GIMP
I have downloaded G'MIC and unzipped it, but it's not clear how to
install it. I would guess that it should simply be copied
to /usr/lib64/gimp/2.0/plug-ins, but this procedure doesn't seem to be
documented anywhere. Or maybe it's better to copy it to
$HOME/.gimp-2.6/plug-ins . Or maybe something else.
The most promising looking tool, gimp-plugin-mgr, produces an error:
$ gimp-plugin-mgr --install gmic_gimp
gimp-plugin-mgr: can't read /etc/gimp/plugins.d/gmic_gimp.conf
It's a good idea to check before charging ahead.
BTW: How carefully are the plugins in the Gimp Plugin Registry checked
for trojans, etc?
Thanks - jon
