interface language

Under winXP at the start menu>programmes you can find the 'GTK+ Runtime Enviroment' folder with an application called 'select language'. with it you can select your favoured language without a problem.

On my WinXP there is no such thing. The only GTK+ item there is "Theme Selector" which only appears after Pidgin installation (and only works for Pidgin).

(on my system at present there are four GTK+ applications: GIMP, GnuCash, Pidgin and Sylpheed)

This was only available when GTK+ was distributed separately from GIMP, so it's not there anymore. GIMP would need to implement this somewhere in it's preferences, as quite a few users seem to be running in a different locale than what they want for the interface language.

LANG user's system variable

For me to have the Gimp UI in English rather than in Spanish (language of WinXP install) the following setting did the trick: I created a new entry for the user variables called 'LANG' and set to 'en' (panel control, system, advanced options, environment variables).

Hope it helps
