Hi, I'm not a real programmer/developer, I'm a translator, the italian GIMP translation team leader. In the hope to give the best translation possible of GIMP I usually compile it from cvs/svn to see really where a tranlation string is in the program menus and what it really means.

Now the problem. It's a couple of weeks or more that I begun to see untraslated strings in the program that have no correspondance in any .po file.

I usually update the .po file with the command:

intltool-update it

but it keeps saying that there are not untraslated strings. I've make a make distclean and make clean without success.

this is one example: http://www.ciampix.net/layer-stack.png

the last string is untranslated and untranslatable.

but doing

grep -R "Reverse La" * plug-ins/script-fu/scripts/.svn/text-base/reverse-layers.scm.svn-base: _"Reverse Layer Order"
plug-ins/script-fu/scripts/reverse-layers.scm: _"Reverse Layer Order"

I see that actually the string _is_ translatable.

Is it my fault?

What happens if you regenerate .pot file and run 'msgmerge -Uv your.po reference.pot'? The easiest way to do it is to run 'make update-po'.

Hi,

The file was missing from po-script-fu/POTFILES.in All files containing translatable strings need to be listed there, so it's not your fault.

I've added it now, just svn update

ciao, --mitch

This string is marked for translation, it's in POTFILES and it even seems to be translated to italian. What exactly is the screenshot showing?

That even with the assuptions that you list, the dialog window shows some items (not all) untranslated. If it was the same problem of the last msg, it would be fixed by myself; now I'm skilled enough ;-)

The screenshot should refer to the Layers -> Transparency submenu.

Cheers.

It seems (to me) that many dialogs are affected to this _partial_ localization problem, that is: some items appear translated, and some not, mainly in the filter sub-menus.

Perhaps is only a mine build sandbox problem, someone could -please- confirm?

TIA

I can confirm there are a lot of untranslated strings in the Image window -> Filter -> submenus and in the Image window -> Colors menu (plug-ins contributed menu items as well I guess).

There are some more in the Image Window -> Image menu and Image Window -> Layers menu as well as two in the Main Window -> Xtns menu.

I have built Gimp from svn last week (shortly after the 2.3.15 release) so take these notice with care, things may have changed in the meanwhile.

If you would like a detailed list please ask.

Cheers.

Hello devs!, as you can see I have reported this problem since 16 march 2007 can someone please confirm?

For Sven: the screenshot: http://www.ciampix.net/color2alpha.png shows that the first 2 rows are translated, from 3 to 5 are in english, and all the rest is translated. This is more or less the same behaviour in all the filters menus...

Well, you actually reported a different problem. And we fixed that.

For Sven: the screenshot: http://www.ciampix.net/color2alpha.png shows that the first 2 rows are translated, from 3 to 5 are in english, and all the rest is translated. This is more or less the same behaviour in all the filters menus...

In the meantime we figured out that this happened during some recent refactoring. We know about the problem and it will be fixed in the next development release.
