SoC Q: SDI vs MDI?

This discussion is connected to the gimp-developer-list.gnome.org mailing list which is provided by the GIMP developers and not related to gimpusers.com.

This is a read-only list on gimpusers.com so this discussion thread is read-only, too.

SoC Q: SDI vs MDI?

Is the SoC page correct where it asks for an "SDI manager widget"? Wouldn't that be an "MDI manager widget"?

MDI: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Multiple_document_interface SDI: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Single_document_interface

Or does the Wikipedia have it backwards?

AFAIK this is mixed. The project wasn't taken, btw.

I don't think so.

Proposed Gimp functionality board ML.

Hi All, could the gimp dev mailing list be seperated into 2 lists? "gimp dev"- where actual develpment is discussed by developers. and "gimp funboard" - where people discuss functionality, interface design etc.

We do this at Blender3D and it works well, from reading over the gimp dev's lists it seems that you could do with a separate list for interface and functionality discussion.

GIMP has what I would describe as CSDI, Controlled Single Document interface. The toolbox acts as a control window but each document has a signle window of its own. (Photoshop on the Mac would also be CSDI but the menubar acts at the control window. I've seen other programs which have a seperate menubar as the control window, including a version of Mathematica and various IDE.

Inkscape has what I would call straight SDI.

I dont think Wikipedia is entirely clear without necessarily being inaccurate, it just needs more information.
