Bug Week!

Hi all!

As some of you might already know, next week is the pre-2.0 GIMP Bug Week. The first pre-releases of 2.0 will start coming out the door around the end of this month, and we need to get some concentrated testing done before then, as well as classifying known bugs into those which will be fixed before 2.0 final and those which will be fixed later.

For those of you who aren't familiar with the idea, a bug week is a week when we make an extra effort to find bugs (and fix them) with the assistance of the general public. We invite people to join up on IRC (irc://irc.gnome.org/#gimp) to give us feedback, to help the developers prioritize bugs to be fixed, and to report bugs (if you're intimidated by Bugzilla).

Apart from bug fixing we also need GIMP users to volunteer for bug triaging. If you are unfamiliar with the concept of bug triaging, the GNOME Project has a nice description of the bug triage concept - please see http://developer.gnome.org/projects/bugsquad/triage/

So if you're a GIMP user and wants to help the developers getting the source code in shape for 2.0 - or if you're a developer with (at least) minimal experience with The GIMP and wants to help fixing bugs in the source - you should definitely show up at The GIMP Bug Week.

See you at The GIMP Bug Week!

Bug Week!

What do you think, should I perhaps build a fresh Win32 build of GIMP 1.3 for the bug week, and announce it on gimpwin-users? Or will we get overloaded by non-bugs like problems with installing GIMP 1.3 on Windows?

If this announcement is supposed to attract users, it should be more specific about the skills that are required to participate in Bug Week.

Questions like "What version of GIMP will I have to test?" and "I can't code. Is this a problem?" come to my mind.

I think that I know the answers, but discussions on irc have shown that my understanding of a bug week seems to be a bit different from what it should be, so an official statement would be better.

We will probably get overloaded with non-bugs and multiple reports of real bugs. What's the problem with that?

If there's any triage needed for these, to weed out the doubles, I'd be glad to help out.

Any chance, BTW, of fixing that weird floating point GTK bug anytime soon? () It's a
real stopper for me.

Can't hurt to have this.

Well, installation problems are bugs that indicate the lack of idiot-proof documentation. Unfotunately, Win32 users seem to lose the ability to read installation instructions at all.

But it is certainly better to find any Win32 specific bugs now than after the 2.0 release.

We will very likely do a 1.3.20 release for the bug week and I would appreciate if we could offer a Win32 build (and packages for other platforms) based on that release.

According to Bugzilla it has already been fixed about a month ago.

I saw that. Either that fix has not reached the GIMP yet, or I have done something wrong in installing Tor's second batch of binaries. Either way, I should have worded my question more carefully.

This is fixed in the GTK 2.2.3 binaries prvided by Tor - GIMP is so much better to use now :)
