curvature filter

Dear GIMP developers,

My name is Yuanhao Gong and I did my PhD in image processing in the past few years at ETH Zurich.

During my PhD, I developed some curvature filters that can efficiently minimize the Gaussian or mean curvature of images. These filters can smooth the image while preserving the edges. The source code and theoretical explanation can be found at https://github.com/YuanhaoGong/CurvatureFilter

I am a user of GIMP and hope that these very useful filters can be included in GIMP. Please let me know if someone were interested. Cheers!

Hello, Mr. Gong!

First of all, your results look rather impressive to me.

Please note however that it's only possible to "include" a filter into the next release of GIMP if the filter is implemented as a GEGL operation.

If you don't have either time or interest, I do hope that someone will get involved and make a GEGL port of your filters. I'm sure that will benefit a lot of users.

Also it would be necessary for someone else to work on that to have a clear licensing statement within the repository and/or the source code.

To avoid confusion I'd recommend sticking to the accepted free software licenses.
