GIMP 2.8.4 release?

Hello,

GIMP 2.8 was released on 2012-05-03 GIMP 2.8.2 was released on 2012-08-24

In the recent past, there was a discussion about doing timed releases, every ~3 months.

If a ~3-month cycle is desired, the 2nd release in the 2.8.x series could be 2012-11-03 or 2012-11-24. I mention this now because an -RC release 2 weeks prior to the earlier date would be 1 week from now.

It appears that for version 2.8.2, 21 issues have been resolved FIXED; 14 are NEW, 1 is reopened; and 30 are unconfirmed or need more info.

Of the new issues, 6 have higher than "normal" severity, and 2 have higher than "normal" priority:
- 674928 - Major
(Urgent): Artifact-prone redraw when panning. - 682585 - Critical
(Normal): Pressing a key in Edit/Modules crashes GIMP - 683019 - Blocker
(Normal): Mac requires app signing for installation on OSX 10.8 - 683373 - Major
(Normal): Mac native port has very poor performance - 683617 - Major
(Normal): MacOS can't take screenshots - 663582 - Major
(High): Reopened - Brush outline too slow.

Respectfully submitted, Chris

the 'GIMP on OS X' builds on my site (gimp.lisanet.de) are already signed with my developer ID

- 683373 - Major (Normal): Mac native port has very poor performance - 683617 - Major (Normal): MacOS can't take screenshots

... this works too in my builds, so maybe these two issues should not block a RC release.

I'd appreciate it, too.

To prepare the upcoming next releases (like final testing etc.) I'd also find some information an appropriate time before useful. May it be a simple announcement on the mailing lists ('Next release planned in 2 weeks. Start testing thoroughly with drawocs nightly builds'), a schedule or a more official RC. What will be the best match for the current projects situation?
There was already a release planning thread almost two months ago ('gimp 2.8.1. when?'). Let's see how we can get further.

Kind regards,

Sven
