hotspot means the same as hot spot ?

In the plug-ins .po file there are a number of new strings containing „hotspot”. However, in the same file, some older strings contain „hot spot”.
Both expressions refer to the same thing ?

Yes, they do. I have pushed a change to master that makes the strings consistent with what is used in the XBM plug-in.
