brush precision

Hi,
I posted this to the users' forum, but that was probably a mistake. I'm copying it to here in the hope that it might be useful.

(from users' forum...

some time ago there was a thread about changing the brush icon between showing the brush size and a precise crosshair. I can't seem to locate that thread, but if I remember rightly it was suggested that the change should happen at mouse-click, or when holding the mouse button down.

Now I've just discovered, quite fortuitiously, that in photoshop (at least in Elements 2, so presumably also in PS7, on which the elements code was based) that you can toggle between these icons (i.e. brush outline vs. crosshair) using the caps-lock key.
Maybe that might be a good idea for GIMP also?

minimising

Hi,

The discussion about single window mode has reminded me of something. I find that when I use Gimp, I can minimise the main window, but all the other panes- toolbox, options, layers, etc - remain open on the desktop. (I'm using windows XP, BTW).
Now maybe there's already an option to change this behaviour, that I don't yet know about? If not, I think it it would be very helpful if all panes were closed when the main window is minimised, and reopened when it is restored.
best,
/Gary

Please note that the behaviour of GIMP's windows on Windows is not necessarily as intended by the developers. The reference environment is using metacity as widnow manager on GNOME on Linux. You shouldn't infer anything about the developers' intentions from how GIMP's windows happen to behave on Windows. Most likely suboptimal window behaviour on Windows is just caused by bugs in GTK+ on Windows. The active GIMP developers don't use Windows much.

happens on linux, too.

only way i found to hide the panels is by hitting , hiding them while the main window is still maximized. when i hide the main window then, everything is gone.

If not, I think it it would be very helpful if all panes were closed when

the main window is minimised, and reopened when it is restored.

good idea.

wasn't aware of that. what i refered to in my previous post was KDE 4.3 on openSUSE. have to try how it works using metacity (not going to install gnome, though.)
