who's right ? (translation question)

Somewhere in po-libgimp there is this string: "Gamma color display filter"

I want to translate it, but I am totally confused. In English this sounds to me like a language puzzle game.

In French this is "Filtre d'affichage couleur gamma"
In Italian this is
"Filtro di visualizzazione gamma dei colori" Both translations mean the same thing, i.e. a filter for displaying a gamma of the colors.

But in Spanish translation this is "Filtro gamma de visualización del color " which means a gamma filter for viewing the color.

And in German this is Farbfilter für Gamma-Anzeigen
which means color filter for showing the gamma.

What is the *CORRECT* meaning of this string ?

It is a filter to adjust the gamma, try it in View -> Display Filters. The string should probably be "Gamma display filter" but since I'm not a native English speaker I'm not sure. It seems to me though as the word "color" in there comes from a technical detail, the base class of the module, GimpColorDisplay.
