Interesting illusion
I also really appreciated that "illusion" image. Not only is it a cool
illustration, but it also happens to fit right in to a project that I'm
presently working on, which involves distinguishing black and white portions
of scanned images that have varying contrast and brightness due to folds,
stains, reproduction anomalies, etc. I'm essentially working on a more
sophisticated than average adaptive contrast and brightness adjustment /
thresholding application. The subject image will provide an excellent test
target for my gimp plug-in.
By the way, I also agree: Wow, those colors sure seem different to the eye!
Really hard to believe they are the same.

Thought you might enjoy this--very amusing! The illusion is a
checkerboard
with a white and black square being the same color because of a shadow.
