N00b question: why is Photocopy filter not showing up in Gimp2.0 on Mac/Leopard/fink?

This discussion is connected to the gimp-user-list.gnome.org mailing list which is provided by the GIMP developers and not related to gimpusers.com.

This is a read-only list on gimpusers.com so this discussion thread is read-only, too.

N00b question: why is Photocopy filter not showing up in Gimp2.0 on Mac/Leopard/fink?

OK, so Gimp2.0 is all that I see available in Fink on Leopard. But when I go to the gimp.org site, the only documentation is for 2.2 and 2.4. When I google Gimp2.0, I get redirected to the 2.2 documentation. I must be missing something, but what?

Anyway, the 2.2 documentation says this:

http://docs.gimp.org/2.2/en/plug-in-photocopy.html

And when I go to Filters->Artistic in Gimp2.0, there is only the following (no Photocopy filter):

Apply Canvas Cubism
GIMPressionist
Oilify

Am I just out of luck until 2.2 is ready for Fink?

Thanks so much for bearing with me.

GIMP 2.0 is over 4 years old. Are you sure about the version? Enter

gimp -v

in a terminal. What is the output?

Hi Jon,

Thanks for the quick reply. Here you go:

pythia:barrie$ /sw/bin/gimp-2.0 -v GIMP version 2.0.6

(Apologies for the format of this message; I'm reading from the archives as I misguidedly chose digest mode when subscribing).

Thanks, Barrie

Von: magicapn-fb@yahoo.com

pythia:barrie$ /sw/bin/gimp-2.0 -v GIMP version 2.0.6

There seem to be 2.4.5 packages:
http://pdb.finkproject.org/pdb/package.php/gimp2

Don't know which of them is Leopard (please use the version numbers instead of the code names), though.

Hi Michael,

Sorry about the delay in responding; I've been away from the keyboard for the last few days.

There seem to be 2.4.5 packages:

Thank you--yes, I don't think 2.0 has that feature. I noticed a thread right before mine in the archives where someone recommended a binary version of Gimp 2.4.5 that runs on Leopard (Mac OS X 10.5.4) and doesn't require Fink. I installed that and am now up and running with photocopy filter.

Don't know which of them is Leopard (please use the version numbers instead of the code names), though.

I can see how that would be confusing--sorry about that. See version # above.

Thanks so much! This community is a wonderful resource and I really appreciate it.
