GIMP, dvd-slideshow, and cropping

Hi,

Anyone use GIMP to prepare pictures for dvd-slideshow?

If so:

Do you crop your images to be a 4:3 (1.33..) ratio for NTSC format?

Can the Rectangle Selection tool with the "Fixed aspect ratio" somehow be used to quicken the cropping - let GIMP do the math ;-)?

Also do you change the X and Y resolution to 81 and 72 respectively for NTSC output or can it be left at 72x72, 300x300, or however the photo was scanned? These aren't for print, just TV viewing on DVD.

I have borders turned on in dvd-slideshow. I suppose I have to take that into consideration too when determining the image width and height. For example, a 640x480 (1.33 ratio) I would make 560x400 (hhhmmm, no longer 1.33) if I specify in dvd-slideshow a 40 pixel border all around.

I hope this isn't a silly question.

Thank you.
