Problems Saving Custom Brushes and Patterns (Gimp 2.2)

Hi,

I have been using the Gimp for 4 years now and I have run into a problem. I am using the path " ~/.gimp-2.2/brushes/~.gbr and the message states that my image is saved as a Gimp brush. The problem lies in the fact that the brush (or pattern same problem) isn't showing up in the brush dialog. I have also tried using the writable path under preferences/brushes and that is not working either. Oddly enough, the writable path I am using for my fonts is working just fine.

I am at a loss...Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thank you.
