Can't hide layer boundary when merging layers

I have a simple project with just 2 layers. I want to merge them into 1 layer. But the layer boundaries aren't the same. IN the screen grab of GIMP you see 2 yellow layers. The top layer has a right border that doesn't extend to the right as far as the layer beneath it, which you can see it extending further to the right.

When I export this image of 2 layers, the layer right and bottom boundaries show as you can see in the pic. I want to not see those 2 lines, when I export the pic. Is there any way to do this in GIMP?

Disregard this post. I figured it out - user error!
