Why is text created in orange in a downloaded file

I downloaded a png. When I open it in GIMP and try to add white text, the text shows up as orange.

I tried to import another image to this file as a layer. It gets an orange tint.

I am new to GIMP.

Thanks,

The name Tree-clipart is a bit of a give-away. Clipart often uses a 'restrictive' type of image format.

In this case the image is indexed and uses a colormap that does not contain white. So Gimp uses the closest colour available.

It tells you that it is indexed top of the Gimp Window. Easy to fix.

Go to Image -> Mode and change the mode from Indexed to RGB.
