Ultimate noob

I am very very very new to GIMP so please don't be too harsh.

I was doing some stuff in GIMP searching for a keyboard shortcut and I ended up hitting some sort of key combination that switched the "eye" icon (for layer visibility) next to the layers, into a chain icon (for linking). Can anyone tell me how to change it back as I use visibility SIGNIFICANTLY more often than linking. Thanks!!

Layer visibility is not assigned a keyboard shortcut so your 'some sort of key combination' is unlikely.

It is toggled on / off by clicking the 'eye' icon and all layers toggled on /off by shift-click on the eye icon

Same applies to the link layers icons along side the visibility icon.
