What do you mean by 'crop' Cropping is cutting down the size of the image.

Use the crop tool: https://docs.gimp.org/en/gimp-tool-crop.html

or do you mean something else like removing the white section of the image?

or maybe creating that curved edge on some other image.

Difficult to say what - curved edge is as good as any.

To get a nice clean cut-out you need to use the path tool. One of those things that takes a bit of describing when a demo might be better.

Other things to consider, This sort of shape often used on top of another image. The image will need transparency, an alpha-channel.

Export as a png image to keep transparency. Remove transparency to get white as your example.
