highlights/shadow gimp-user-list Digest, Vol 76, Issue 5

Hello,

Besides the plug-in the GIMP tool you are looking for is Curves in the menu Colors. Its the same as Curves (Gradation Curves) in Photoshop and it is the most powerful tool to lighten shadows and regain highlights in GIMP. Regards

That is very odd -- works from Madison WI, using ATT Uverse, MacBook/Firefox.

Maybe shouldn't do this, but it's attached to this reply.

Hello,

I'm relatively new to GIMP and Ubuntu. I am moving away from using

photoshop/windows. I'm a life long photographer and have developed a work flow in photoshop.

With learning the structure of GIMP, I'm of course wanting to

recreate my work flow.

The one feature of photoshop I have come to rely on heavily is the

Shadows/Highlights function. It is extremely important to me.

With it I can adjust and preserve the detail in shadow and highlight

areas of an image to approximate what I actually saw.

But, I can't seem to find something similar in Gimp. Can someone

point me to the area of Gimp that may provide this?

Thanks in advance !!!!

Hey Julie,

The Shadow Recovery script-fu plugin may be helpful:

File not found.

works here

sorry, no it doesn't work here either.

My bad. Sorry all. Because Firefox let me right-click and it seemed to download a file, I assume, well, that it was downloading the file. Interestingly, there is a file, as I attached in my earlier email, but its content is HTML and its primary content is "FILE NOT FOUND." So, NOT working from Wisconsin after all.

Probably not working anywhere, the latest version of the "script" stored at archive.org is a page from 2016 saying "file not found"

But, nyah ha, on August 12, 2014 the Archive found and stored the original script. Download here:

I should have mentioned: Tested and works in GIMP 2.8.10

The menu item is at: ScriptFu > Contrast
