GIMP forgets I'm using a tablet mid-project.

I've looked through the forums and can't find anything about this issue, but whenever I'm trying to draw, randomly after switching layer or doing anything that isn't stroking my pen on the canvas, gimp forgets I'm using a wacom and loses all pressure settings. It treats my pen strokes as mouse strokes. I'm using a bamboo wacom. CTL-471 model. I've reinstalled and everything.

Apparently, what causes this is clicking outside of the canvas. I'm trying to animate a gif here... this is aggravating. I would like to be able to finish a 12 frame gif before christmas break ends.

I don't understand what you're trying to demonstrate. Would you mind narrating what I'm supposed to be observing?

Sorry - you have hit a bug which will be hard to work-around or fix on GIMP.

I think what you might try to get your work done is to check the keyboard shortcuts for all actions
you currently need, and avoid clicking outside the canvas at all. :-(

You can view (and set different) shortcuts even for actions as "select next layer" if you go to Edit->Preferences->Interface->Configure Keyboard Shortcuts...

Also, maybe try using the menus using the right-click on canvas (with another device, and hoping it does not disconfigure the tablet as well).

GIMP forgets I'm using a tablet mid-project.

Possibly, using Edit -> Preferences -> Input Devices -> Input Controllers you might be able to disable all except the Wacom device?
