How Do You Permanently Remove Document History?

I am a total newbie to Gimp. I have GIMP 2.8.14 using a Windows 7 PC. I tried to permanently remove all record of my past GIMP documents by going to Edit > Preferences > Environment > Document History > unchecking “Keep record of used files in the Recent Document List” and constantly undoing history. But they always return every time I click on “History” or click “Open Recent”. How do you permanently remove document history? Thanks!

Greg

1. File > Open Recent > Document History 2. In the newly opened dialog click triangle button in the upper right corner. 3. In the newly opened menu choose 'Documents Menu > Clear History'. 4. Repeat steps 1-3 every time you need to clear history.

Sorry for awakening this year old thread but it was the only hit on searching when I wanted to do something like "disable document journal". I think, Alex' answer to "Permanently Remove Document History" is one of two correct ways. I looked for a more permanent one and completely disabled the "document journal" in Gimp 2.8 & 2.10 and I want to share this here.

How To (Windows 7, 32&34bit): Log in with admin rights.
Open your File Explorer and navigate to Programs ("Programs (x86)" on 64bit-Windows). Open "GIMP 2", then "etc", then "gimp", then "2.0" (C:\Program Files\GIMP 2\etc\gimp\2.0). Open the file "gimprc" with your text editor. Search for the line "(save-document-history yes)" and change the "yes" to "no". Save file. (If Windows doesn't allow this, save it as a txt-file to the desktop, remove the ".txt"-ending. Then cut and paste the file from there to the correct folder, overwriting the old file. Windows might ask you if you really want to proceed.) Log out as administrator and go to your user account. Open GIMP, go to menu point "edit" and then "settings". In the main window ("environment") you make sure to uncheck the checkbox ("Keep a list of recent documents") at the bottom of the right box. Ready.

I hope this is helpful for everyone, who wants to totally and permanently disable the "document journal" ("recent files list") in GIMP. As I am from a german speaking country, I'd like to add some keywords, too: "Dokumentindex/Dateiliste deaktivieren", "Zuletzt geöffnete Dateien dauerhaft löschen/entfernen"
