Saving keywords to an image

As a recent user of Photoshop, I need to attach details such as keywords to an image. This will usually be a TIFF or JPEG.. I'm new to Gimp but see in the Properties category I can enter the sort of info I want but when I try to save everything this info just disappears and obviously is not embedded in the file.

Can someone help please?

It's not available in the current version.

We are tracking this feature request, and some work is already done towards that goal, but no promises for now.

I do this using the image comments, which I can then extract and manipulate e.g. with exiftool (on Linux at least).
