resynthesizer download and installation

I am new to GIMP. And that shows. I want to use resynthesizer with Gimp 2.8.6. I downloaded something from the web (https://github.com/bootchk/resynthesizer) but this is a master without .exe file. Can somebody help me with the proper download and the installation in GIMP?

You want Resynthesizer 1.0: http://registry.gimp.org/node/27986

That's from 2009. I'm not entirely sure it'll work with Resynthesizer 1.0.

And rightfully so :) Lloyd rewrote the original Resynthesizer into a back-end and a front-end.

I'm not sure I understand that comment.

Nor am I sure just what I have installed (Ubuntu 12.04/GIMP 2.8.6)!

I definitely installed http://registry.gimp.org/node/15118 recently. I can't recall if I also had to install Resynthesiser, or, if I did, what version.

Anyway, Help|Plug-in Browser tells me:

Resynthesize (plug-in-resynthesizer) ...
Author: Paul Francis Harrison
Date: 2000

and...

Heal selection (script-fu-smart-remove) ...
Author: Paul Harrison (pfh@logarithmic.net) Date: 13/9/2000
Copyright: Copyright 2000 Paul Harrison, 2009 Lloyd Konneker

Heal selection certainly works for me.

So what does that all mean?

resynthesizer download and installation

From what I know, GIMP 2.8.x isn't compatible with any version of Resynthesizer other than v1.0. Resynthesizer v1.0 was entirely rewritten to support GIMP 2.8 and most likely included bug fixes/new features. Since you say you installed the "fix" from 2009, you have most likely downgraded the Heal Selection tool.

What you want to do is remove the current Resynthesizer plugin you have and install this one: http://registry.gimp.org/node/25219

It's not entirely necessary for you to upgrade if it works fine but I'd recommended it to keep issues from arising in the future.
