Install Issues

I currently have Gimp 2.6 installed but on my Dell Dimension With Windows XP service pack 3, I would like to update to 2.8 but when I download and try to install the program it keeps saying there's errors.

Is this gimp 2.8 not able to be used on my machine

What error messages are you getting and where did you get the installer?

I got the Installers both from Sourceforge.net

The 2.8.2 file says: Set up files corrupted Please obtain a new copy of the program

then 2.8.4 says : External Protocol Request

Application file

If you were not expecting this request it may be an attempt to exploit a weakness in that other program. Cancel this request unless you are sure it is not malicious

then Launch or cancel if I it launch it goes no further and cancel cancels the set up

Possibly not under Windows XP; depending on the system it may work fine on the same machine but under a GNU/Linux™ operating environment, for example.

If you got the file from there, then it should be called

gimp-2.8.4-setup.exe

If your download is really named like the one you posted, you either got something else or you have renamed the file.
