"Virtual" rescale

Hi list,

I have a question and am sure it has been asked before -- but I cannot seem to find the correct search terms.

Is it possible to "virtually" rescale layers in the Gimp? Or is this planned? Because it would be an awesome feature.

What I mean is this: When you "virtually" rescale a layer, everything behaves as if it were a normal layer rescale operation, but internally the GIMP remembers the original image size. This means if I change my mind later and want to resize again (make it bigger for example), I don't lose quality. Or is this maybe already be possible somehow and has evaded me?

Best regards,
Johannes

Not currently - if you want this a lot, check out Inkscape.

I know Inkscape and use it a lot -- for very different tasks, however. For raster image manipulation, Inkscape just doesn't cut it. I use it for all my vector graphics work. They're two *very* different programs, all in all.

By "not currently" -- which question did you answer exactly: Is it not currently supported or not currently planned?

Best regards, Joe

Has this feature been requested or is it worth filing a enhancement request at the bugtracker?

This "feature" is going to be an inherent part of the new non-destructive workflow, where every change can be undone or adjusted across sessions.
