gimp 2.8 export, after save as keeps old files name
Hello, i have a question, when i open a new file and export it with ctrl+e, the gimp 2.8 exports the file with the current file name as expected but after i save (with save as) file with a new file name, ctrl+e exports the new file with the old file name, and i think it has to be changed, because it is an absolutely new file and it is senseless to keep the old file name for exporting the new file... Is this a bug or did developers do this feature intentionally?

More specifically:
1 - Open any convenient (non XCF) image file. E.g. "filename.png" 2 - Access the Export command. The default filename shown is "filename.png" (e.g. whatever the source filename was). 3 - Access the Save As command. The default filename shown here is "filename.xcf". 4 - Save the image as an XCF but with a different filename, e.g. "filename.different.xcf" . 5 - Access the Export command again. The default filename is now "filename.different.png", not "filename.png".
Why is that?

Yes, this what i tried to ask. We create a new file with "save as" and it keeps exporting with the old file name and overwrites file exported before, this doesn't make sense to me.

Hello again, does anyone have interest to solve this problem? How can i communicate with gimp developers, is writing on this forum not the proper way to ask something about gimp? I think it is senseless to keep old file name for export after saving as your image with different name?

gimp 2.8 export, after save as keeps old files name
I believe the simple answer to your question is use the export to new file option under the file menu. This gives you the chance to export a new file under a different name.

gimp 2.8 export, after save as keeps old files name
I know that i can export it with different file name but i don't believe it is simple and convenient, because while working it is hard to remember that gimp 2.8 has a strange feature for exporting and keeps old file name for exporting. And people tend to use ctrl+e automatically, and it messes all the work which is done...

gimp 2.8 export, after save as keeps old files name
Well, I like having the option personally. I have just gotten into the habit of hitting ctrl+shift+e to export as a new file. You could change the ctrl+e shortcut to export as a new file instead if that is what you're in the habit of hitting.

gimp 2.8 export, after save as keeps old files name
Hello, may be because of my english i cannot explain myself clearly ( it is not my main language) For example i create a new file "first_file.xcf" and then i make some changes, save it and export it with ctrl+e as "first_file.png", then i make some more changes and save my file as "second_file.xcf" and export it with ctrl+e, but Gimp 2.8 does not export my file with the new filename "second_file.png", instead of using new file name it uses the name "first_file.png" and overwrites my file that i exported earlier. Hi Realbezo,
I think you could make your self understood -
but maybe you haven't got any answers because the issue you report is
not perceived as a problem
for the people who have read it - After all, if you changed the
filename, all you have to do is
to use the "export..." option to reset the filename of the exported
work, instead of
repeating "export to...". I myself would expect it not to change
automatically, and would find it
annoying if it would prompt me for a new exporting name. The idea of
the "export to..." options
is exactly not to bother the user once he has choosen the options for
exporting his work.

gimp 2.8 export, after save as keeps old files name
Hello again, i also do not want to see a prompt for a new exporting name, but i expect from gimp exporting the "new" file ( which is created by "save as") with the "new file" name, because i think a file should be exported with its file name by default. I don't get why i would expect exporting a new file by defaul with an old or different file name, could anyone please enlighten me?
Hi Realbezo,
I think you could make your self understood - but maybe you haven't got any answers because the issue you report is not perceived as a problem
for the people who have read it - After all, if you changed the filename, all you have to do is
to use the "export..." option to reset the filename of the exported work, instead of
repeating "export to...". I myself would expect it not to change automatically, and would find it
annoying if it would prompt me for a new exporting name. The idea of the "export to..." options
is exactly not to bother the user once he has choosen the options for exporting his work.js

May be, I'm wrong about your question...
