Gimp 2.8 and OSX Mountain Lion

Start up Gimp and get an error message as follows:

Unable to open swap file. GIMP has run out of memory and cannot use the swap file. Some parts of your images may be corrupted. Try to save your work using different filenames, restart GIMP and check the location of the swap directory in your Preferences.

When I check preferences, the path to the swap file is not correct. My path is user to Application to Application Support to Library to Gimp.

Any ideas?

Ed

I had the same problem - took me a long time to sort it out. I have Lion.

Select your hard drive. Then 'get info' - (I think from the file menu I'm not quite sure as I'm not on the mac now).

You then get a box allowing you to change your permissions - down at the bottom. change the relevant user (your own ID) to 'read and write'. It worked. Good luck.

Sorry - to follow up on that previous email, I forgot that the next step was to go to preferences while in the Gimp program - I think this was in the file or edit menu, but you must go to preferences in Gimp, not mac. You get an option to change folders. Click folders and change the given options to tmp. You may have to create a tmp folder. This doesn't work unless you have the correct permissions set as before.
