ANNOUNCE: GIMP 2.7.5 released

"Michael Natterer" wrote in message news:1331673160.5229.5.camel@localhost...

Hi,

GIMP 2.7.5 has been released. This is the last development snapshot in the unstable 2.7 series that leads to 2.8. Only release candidates and the 2.8 release will follow.

Hello. What is the normal amount of time before a Windows version should be expected too? Thanks.

Thank you. Are these official GIMP builds? I am just not yet familiar with GraphicAll.org :) .

Hi,

in my experience this time is short, less than a month.

You might look at http://sourceforge.net/projects/gimp-win/files/GIMP%20%2B%20GTK%2B%20%28development%20rel.%29/GIMP%202.7.5/ The file date for version 2.7.5. is the same as the announcement date at the GIMP news page.

In its parent directory

http://sourceforge.net/projects/gimp-win/files/GIMP%20%2B%20GTK%2B%20%28development%20rel.%29/

you will find other development builds, for instance the 2.8 RC1. Remember, they are unstable development snapshots.

I also tried the 2.7.5 build at graphicall.org lately (which appeared before the official announcement of version 2.7.5.), but I missed some expected features, which the GIMP-WIN projects build has.

ANNOUNCE: GIMP 2.7.5 released

The Windows binaries linked from the GIMP site (http://www.gimp.org/downloads/) are at http://gimp-win.sourceforge.net/. It takes a bit of digging to find the development builds (only the stable and old versions are obvious), but GIMP 2.7.5 and 2.8.0-RC1 are there.

From http://gimp-win.sourceforge.net/ : - click "Project Page" in the right-hand menu (takes you to the sourceforge project page for gimp-win) - click "Browse All Files" just below the Download button - click "GIMP + GTK+ (development rel.) - click the version you want
- click to download the setup.exe for that version

Hope that helps.

Mark.

John: GIMP project doesn't provide precompiled development builds, so no, these builds aren't official.
Some of those builds, however, were done by people close to the project (Partha, for instance) and they should be safe to use, but keep in mind that you shouldn't report problems specific of those builds (application not running, library conflicts, etc.) to GIMP developers.
