Tablet
I downloaded Gimp and have a tablet plugged it, but anytime I try to make say a line using the tablet, nothing appears. The tablet is on and working. The only way now I can make a line is by using the mouse. Please help.

Brand and model of tablet?
Type and version of operating system?
Version of Gimp?

Tablet
There should be some response if the tablet itself will actually move the mouse. If it clicks, it should be received by the GIMP. The other thing you have to do to get the GIMP to read your tablet is enable it in the user preferences. This is under Edit>preferences Then go to the label that says Extended Input Devices. From there it's not so bad.

Tablet
In my experience (GIMMP 2.4 thru 2.6, Windows XP, Wacom Intuos 3) sometimes GIMP has trouble detecting the tablet during its startup routines. If this happens then you can still use the tablet to interact with interface elements (toolbars, menus, etc.) but when attempting to draw with it it will either react like a normal mouse cursor (i.e: no pressure sensitivity) or fail to do anything at all.
You can confirm this by going to your GIMP's Edit > Preferences, under Input Devices click "Configure Extended Input Devices" and if GIMP says none are found then this means it didn't detect the tablet at all. In which case, first try rebooting GIMP (after attempting to use the tablet, of course) and see if that makes a difference.
