This discussion is connected to the gimp-user-list.gnome.org mailing list which is provided by the GIMP developers and not related to gimpusers.com.

This is a read-only list on gimpusers.com so this discussion thread is read-only, too.

Try installing hugin - it is probably in your OS repositories.

Why would you address the bounces list?

Gimp runs well on Linux but it also runs on Windows and OS X. Perhaps you meant "Open Source" software.

The rather old book "Grokking the Gimp" has a two page dissertation on panoramas (256-257).

My experience with TeX, Gimp, Scribus, Inkscape etc. is that, while the software and the support are free, successful use also requires a library of good books on the software. I also own (and use) "The Artist's Guide to Gimp Effects." Amazon lists some other titles I haven't bought yet.

As mentioned, Hugin is an excellent, comprehensive, panorama application. Go to their web site and look at their tutorials. http://hugin.sourceforge.net/

There is also a gimp script, Pandora which will make simple panos, a few tutorials around, my take on the subject here http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zBma6CT3mjY
