Is LZW included in GIMP?

Hello all,

We are looking for a method to batch process TIFF images and GIMP seems to be able to do everything we need it for, except for one gray area I am unsure about. Does GIMP use LZW? I see it as an option when saving TIFFs, however the last information I saw (about a year old now) seems to suggest that GIMP doesn't actually use it, yet. I was wondering if anyone knows for sure if this is the case or not.

The TIFF files will have to be in LZW, as we are going to import them into a records management system that requires it to accept the files.

It is a form of compression applied to TIFF images. Sorry for that.

Lempel–Ziv–Welch Compression.

Commonly refereed to as LZW. This is the common use term and is perfectly acceptable to use.

LZW compression is supported when saving TIFF files (there's also a few other compression modes available as well).

Gimp rebuilding user files?

I started up GIMP today (2.6.11 on Win 7 x64), and got an extended pause and the startup windows showed "reading patterns" as best I remember. I do recall in the past fooling around some trying to add a pattern file, but can't remember exactly what I had done. At any rate after an extended period GIMP started, but configured a bit differently. Looking around my system I see that the

C:\Users\\.gimp-2.6\ folder hierarchy seems to have been completely rebuilt. Per the help that appears to be normal if local GIMP settings are missing or damaged. But doing some mucking around, I found another copy from earlier in

C:\Users\\Appdata\Local\.gimp=2.6\

I did a compare of the two folder hierarchies, and did find a reference to pattern-path and pattern-path-writable in the older gimprc. So I backed up the new .gimp-2.6 and copied over the older one to C:\Users\\, except I kept the new gimprc, and now GIMP is loading OK (AFAICT) with my original .gimp=2.6.

So I guess I'm wondering what happened, and where is .gimp-2.6 supposed to be located in a Win 7 x64 system?
