I'm not an expert Gimp user so maybe I'm just not looking in the right place for this. I've been Googling for hours and finally gave up.

I need to shape an image to follow a path or curve. Since I can't do it, I'm not sure how I can show you what I mean, but imagine the palm branch that flows around the edge of a medal. I have a long slender image of a braid (3/4" x 10") I need to shape like that around a 5" circle. Polar Coordinates seems to be the place to start but it creates a huge curve and I can't see how to force it any smaller. This is much like making text follow a curve or path, but I need my image to follow the path. I've thought about converting the image to a really big font symbol so I could manage it like a text character but I've not figured out how to go about that.

This is evidently something others have sought and no one has found a solution for yet. Is there none?

Any help?

Thanks.

maybe arclayer

http://registry.gimp.org/node/8261 and http://shallowsky.com/software/arclayer/

an example

If using windows you will need to install python, not as difficult as it used to be. AFAIK the various modules are now compatible, only snag, you would have to uninstall gimp and reinstall after python. see:

Thank you both so much!

ArcLayer looks most promising but I'm obviously doing something wrong. When I open my file Braid.xcf, then click on Filters~Distorts~ArcLayer, I expected a dialog to open, no? I get a momentary clock then nothing. My latest of several attempts to install Python includes:

Uninstall GIMP Install Python-2.6.6.msi into C:\Program Files\Python26 Install pycairo-1.8.10.win32-py2.6.exe Install pygtk-2.22.0.win32-py2.6.exe Install pygobject-2.26.0.win32-py2.6.exe Install GIMP v2.6.11
Verify that Python-Fu is present on the Filters menu in GIMP

Copy arclayer-0.3.py and wrap-map-0.3(2).py into the folder C:\Program Files\GIMP-2.0\lib\gimp\2.0\plug-ins

That should be all I need to do, right? I can see both plugins on the Filters menus.

I've also copied the two .py files into C:\Program Files\GIMP-2.0\lib\gimp\2.0\python and into C:\Program Files\Python26\Lib where other .py files reside.

I'm still getting what appears to be nothing happening.

I don't think you're the author of the .py file and may not be able to help further. Since both plug ins are showing up in GIMP, I have to think I've installed them correctly. There must be something causing them to not start.

image to curve

Never mind. I got it!

I'd first tried Python 2.7 (newest version, gotta be good) only to discover that GIMP 2.6.11 only supports Python 2.5 and 2.6. So I tried Python 2.6. That's what wouldn't let either of the plug-ins even start. Finally backed down to Python 2.5.4 and uninstalled and reinstalled everything. ArcLayer works perfectly! I haven't tried WrapMap yet, but I will.

As far as wrapping the image around a curve, I appreciate your suggesting these two plug-ins to get the job done. I still have some tweaking to do but I expected that once I could see how the wrapped image looked.

Thank you both.

can you tell me about how to get rid of a time stamp in gimp 2? I have tried and tried and i have not been able to successfully take it off with no smudges or anything.
