separate plug-in problem

Running GIMP 2.6.8 on Windows XP Home Ed. 512mb RAM When trying to use the Separate plugin Image ----Separate- Separate (to normal )or (to full) I receive the following message---

The dying plug-in may have messed up GIMP's internal state. You may want to save your images and restart GIMP to be on the safe side.Plug-in crashed: "separate.exe"
(C:\Program Files\GIMP-2.0\lib\gimp\2.0\plug-ins\separate.exe)
