Hmm, that is strange. I would recommend trying to redownload. Sometimes (not often) packets of data can be corrupted when downloaded. It may help if you are to download over a wired (not wifi) connection. It may help if you can quote word for word what the error message says.

I've installed GIMP several times on a Vista machine without any problems.
