Tutorial procedure suggestion: glowing swirl

Hi Gimp-user,

I was trying to duplicate the tutorial at this site:

http://digital-photography-school.com/post-production-light-painting-reader-tutorial

I used the Path Tool to create the swirl, but what would you suggest for the inner/outer glow?
