I need to know
This discussion is connected to the gimp-user-list.gnome.org mailing list which is provided by the GIMP developers and not related to gimpusers.com.
This is a read-only list on gimpusers.com so this discussion thread is read-only, too.

I need to know
Hi
I am a webmaster. I like GIMP. I am creating web interface sometimes.
But I am using PhotoShop, I cannot use GIMP because in every interface I add demo logo and apply some effects like Drop Shadow, Outer Glow etc. And later the buyer want to apply that all effect to his original logo, because it looks nice on that theme.
In PhotoShop I just open that file and select text tool and change text, and done. But in GIMP I have to write that name and trying to apply same effect and matching with that logo, and it takes 30 or more min.
So, I want to ask you that is there any future plan to add something like that feature? I want a feature that can change text after apply Drop Shadow, Outer Glow, Inner Shadow etc.

Hi
Yes this is planned. Don't hold your breath though as it will take quite a while before we reach there, but it is absolutely planned and we are slowly but steadily making progress.

Hi,
I think all these fine things could be produced with scripts or
plug-ins. I do work as webmaster, too. I am not a fan of scheme or lisp.
I rather use perl-gimp. I like the concept of the procedural database
very much. Unfortunately perl-gimp seems not being supported very much,
the last time. I made a plug-in for buttons giving the base structure
and correct dimensions for printing. You only have to insert am image
afterwards as your main motif. Or I made a plug-in for using gocr out
from gimp. I doubt whether photo shop has this extendability.
But photo shop comes with a lot of features ready to use. People who
don't like to write a program first might be better of with photo shop.
I prefer GIMP.
But about procedural data-base: When I want to insert a path I have to
use PF_STRING. I didn't find a feature from which you can get a file
chooser dialog. That's a little bit nasty. Or is there an opportunity
and I didn't find it?

I have been meaning to release a new version of the gimp-perl package for some time now. I haven't gotten around to reading up on how to package the contents of the Subversion repository so that a standard build process (ie. cpan) can be used to install the binding.
