A Few Suggestions for GIMP

Ok, Gimp is working really well for me. But I have some suggestions...

- It would be useful if gimp had the ability to have sub-layers. This would be useful if adding layered images, animations, etc...

- I thought it would be also neat if GIMP could have a threshold on the "Color to Alpha" function.

- I would be very convenient if you guys could fix the "flame" function since I am depending on it for a lot of my art.

Hi!

Yes we know, and this is on the schedule.

- I thought it would be also neat if GIMP could have a threshold on the "Color to Alpha" function.

What exactly is it that you want to achieve? Changes are pretty high that there is some way to achieve that already.

- I would be very convenient if you guys could fix the "flame" function since I am depending on it for a lot of my art.

You mean Filters -> Render -> Nature -> Flame? What's wrong with it?

I also have one more suggestion...

When is Gimp going to be able to make .cur and .ani files. I know that they need pointer click points attached to the image, but Gimp could do that in the future, right? This would be very useful.

A Few Suggestions for GIMP

Hi!

I use this thread to suggest a function I really love to use in PS:

open the "open-file-dialogue" by double clicking the empty image window

thanks a lot for the great work! joy!

I'm convinced that this will have to be a third party plug-in, created by someone who does need it - it's a rather special requirement and probably not of interest for most GIMP users.

Hin Tina!

I already suggested something like that some months ago while GIMP 2.6 was still in development:

have a look here: http://www.gimpusers.com/forums/gimp-developer/6400-simple-suggestion-for-the-UI.html

finally it came out that this feature could be done technically but since it is not clear how that new empty image window will work in the future they decided not to implement this to avoid possible regressions.

GIMP provides a rich API to extend it with plug-ins and scripts. The core developers are definitely not going to add this feature ever. If you need support for a file format, then you should look into writing a plug-in that does this.

what's a sub-layer?

i'd be happy just to have folders for layers ;)
