As a part of the GIMP documentation team I am trying to write the help files for brush dynamics. The first attempt done. Have a look at gimp-help-2.
Where do I find the documentation for this tools? I am not able to figure out all of them by the trial and error method. As a start: how does the direction of the brush influence the size of the brush or other brush behaviors?

Kolbjoern is doing a great work but he (and anyone in the gimp doc team) is stuck without your help!

Please devs, the GIMP manual is paramount for a newbie and advanced use. No serious program exist without documentation. We are doc writers / traslators, we NEED YOUR HELP! Help us help you!

For a start, who is the dynamics main developer? Can he help us?

Hi Marco,

the 2.8 release notes say: Alexia Death, Michael Natterer, Zhenfeng Zhao (GSoc 2009 student). I'm sure you will find them on IRC, at least on weekdays.
I hope this helps you a bit and thanks for your and Kolbjoern documentation works.

Kind regards,

Sven

Thank you.
My problem is that I am using "narrow band" internet. (i.e. slow broad band connection). I am not using IRC. Hopefully someone will answer in this forum. Kolbjoern

Why would it be a problem? I've used IRC via GPRS.

Perhaps not. I'll never tried.
Thank you for reminding me.

Dynamics

Hi,

Sorry, I saw the mail during the weekend but was a bit too busy to immediately reply. All dynamics apply as a multiplier to some base value - usually on what is set by the sliders. so there is base size and a dynamics driver, say presure velocity or direction alters it. Most dynamics applications only make the value smaller - there is only one exception - spacing. spacing is varied between set value and sliders maximum value.

Direction is one of the trickier dynamics drivers. It's easyest to understand when mapped to angle, but can be useful with others as well. Each angle of movement relative to paper is given a direction of motion value as a fraction of the full circle. I can be used to emulate a lopsided brush for example, strokes one direction can be much thinner than in the other.

best, alexia
