Today's git clone, image with 4 layers about 1000x800 pixel, calling the contrast/brightness dialog the cpu goes 100 when generating the preview.

In 2.8 (suse distro package) it's pretty much instantaneous.

You know that 2.9 isn't recommended for production use, do you? :)

The back-end switch hasn't finished yet. It's maybe 20% complete at this point. Anything could go wrong.
