Added dynamics
A few moments ago I added src/toolbox/paint/dynamics.xml to the
gimp-help-2 repository.
This is a first sketch. Hoping someone will correct it, add new sections
etc.
I have no drawing pad or something like that so it is impossible for me
to write about using it.
Of course this is not the only way of describing the dynamics. Only
meant as a start point. As usual: Feel free to make changes.

I hope you do not mind if I switch this tread publicly...

"Mostly moving to the right and moving downward the color is picked from the left side of the gradient and the other directions get the color picked from the right half of the gradient"
Not so strange. It is obviously wrong.
Mostly? Would you clarify this passage, please?
Sorry my english is not very good...
Looks fine to me.
Yeah grammatically but I meant a different thing so you see that I was not able to explain it clearly... so it is my fault.
In that passage I was in trouble in understanding what you actually was trying to say and not arguing on the behaviuor of the function that only accidentally works in a different manner of you was describing...
PS: very good work!
Thank you
Most of the work has been done by using the trial and error method.
I understand... and it is not an easy job...
A few found on internet. I obviously did a bad job here running too few tests on the subject.
Not your fault... there is no docs on the subject... devs expecting docs writers to be able to read sources, that means that they ask for programmers, not writers / translators...
As a consequence of your mail today I tried the color-direction dynamics again. With some different results!
Non tibi hoc soli ... ;-)
It looks like the colors are chosen not as systematically as I first found out, but at more or less by random. Or do you have another explanation? I would be grateful to know.
Please ask devs!
As I said, this is an attempt to get other people engaged in writing this chapter. The lack of description of the dynamics is a great loss to many people using GIMP.
I perfectly agree...
Adding one of my many attempts to figure out how the color-direction works. Btw: This time I used GIMP 2.8.2 on Windows 7.
I use (almost always) GIMP under Linux :-)
Thank you for drawing my attention on this fault.
Thank you for affording this task for all us.
PS: a note on style. Every time you write " in the toolbox" I think you mean " in the tool options panel" or " in the tool option dialog", right? IHMO it is better, when in doubt, to use the more verbose but clearer form...

I'll give it a try.

You are right. I'll correct it.
At the moment I have some other things to do. (There is a life outside
GIMP :-) ) But I will add the corrections as soon as possible.
Hoping some others writing on this subject. Someone using a drawing pad
perhaps?

Ha! How I understand you!!!!

Well yes but I think that, in my opinion, if someone starts writing a section, as you have done here, he must be, for a limited span of time the "Linus Tornvalds" of the chapter. I mean that it could be difficoult, even with git, to merge different authors corrections so I think that this list could be helpful in posting the suggestion by the other contribuitors (as I've done)
Someone using a drawing pad perhaps?
That is really a plus... and I have one, bought just for testing pourpouses (a really cheap one by the european manufacturer "Trust"). I am _not_ an artist so I never used it ... if you mind I can use it to do some tests ... just ask me what I have to do and I'll try and report the results here.
Kolbjoern
Many thanks for you efforts.

I see your point, and of course I'll do my part of the job. But there are lots of stuff to add to the chapters. There are several unwritten parts, some pointed to by "TO DO" others just missing. These could (relative) easily be added by other writers. Moreover, I am not sure that I have found the best or right way presenting the dynamics. Some other suggestions?

Well, as a start: How does the pressure influences the brush in several
combinations?

That's right. After several proofreadings of dynamics and changes almost
every day in the original file, I gave up : too much difficult. I'll
wait for a stable file.
In our xml files, we use spaces instead of tabs. Please check the
"Replace tabs with spaces" option in your text editor : you can see the
result of tabs in http://git.gnome.org/browse/gimp-help-2, which uses 8
spaces for a tab.

Looking forward to it, Julien.
I am using Notepad++ for the writing of the xml files. I thought I
remembered that the tab size should be set to 2, which I did. I will
change the setting to "Replace by space" as you suggested. Using two
spaces instead of tab.
I also have set the format to UTF-8 without byte order mark. Correct?

If the "Replace by space" option is checked, you can use tabs... UTF-8 without BOM is OK : only LF at the end of lines.
