GIMP GIT: window hints and text move

Two questions based on GIT code.

1. Is the move feature for the text bounding box in 2.6 to be removed from 2.7? I got used to being able to click and drag within the bounding box in 2.6 to position a text layer and found that a nice feature. Just wondering if that is gone from 2.7 development - I can't move it that way anymore, possibly because clicking inside the bounding box now acts as text selection.

2. I'm using multi-window mode in 2.7. I'm using GNOME and the Workspace Switcher with 12 workspaces in two rows. I start 2.7 in one workspace, then switch to another, then back to the GIMP workspace. The toolbox and docks are gone - I can't find them in any workspace. Only the image window remains visible. Tabbing doesn't change anything. I have seen this with window manager hints set to either Normal Window and Utility Window. I've not tried Keep Above. Am I perhaps not configuring something correctly?

Thanks.

It has changed.

I now select the Move tool (Move the active layer) to reposition.

This drops you out of edit mode for the text layer and getting back to it is a lot of clicks.I find this a bit bothersome. Also, the move tool is not really convenient if you want to grab something very thin, like a font. Hitting the opaque area is annoyingly hard.

My workaround is usually to use the handles to reposition the bounding box by changing its size temporarily. Perhaps it would make sense to have a move handle on that bounding box as well, that would let you reposition the whole thing.

This is a window-manager-specific issue. From what I recall, some window managers are broken either way, and this was judged the lesser of two evils.

I don't know the bug number off-hand, and can't find it, but it's somewhere in bugzilla. Neo pointed me at it around a year ago, but I've since lost track.

I searched but the closest I found was #595708. Not sure if this is related or not.

With GIMP 2.6 Metacity works fine. Seems a bit of a stretch to force people to change window managers with 2.7 just so it doesn't do this. It would be nice, at a minimum, to know which window manager is recommended to get the correct behavior.

If I knew the right bug number it might help me understand it better. Maybe Metacity is being updated to address the issue.

Bug 556896.

Agreed. It works if you use "Utility window" as the hint for the toolbox and docks, but then they stay on top of the image window unless you hide them completely with Tab.

stay on top is the intended behaviour. for toolbox, palettes and inspectors this is how it should work, in general.
