Welcome, Luis and lxutao.

I cannot access the open tasks wiki of the documentation team, seems

broken,

and i want to contribute translations to spanish. Thanks.

Yes it is broken. Don't worry, it was out of date.

What is your Operating System, Linux or Windows ?

Are you accustomed to use po files for translation ?

You have to install gettext and git to download and manage the gimp-help-2 repository.

Hi, i have both a Linux(Ubuntu 9.10 with Git and gettext installed) and a Windows Vista pc. I not used to using that files. Never translated any serious docs before(but i have a good understanding of written english, and spanish)
Any guidelines would be appreciated.

I think i can complete at least some documentation in spanish(i looked over the online documentation in spanish, it's incomplete), i did pull the whole GIMP docs out of GIT, it's a big file and i have found the spanish files. Any viewer/editor will work just fine? And i identify the way to edit it, seems easy. Then after making some translations, how can i submit it to GIT?

Never having performed translation work with GIMP, I cannot speak authoritatively, but I will throw out a few suggestions:

(1) If Spanish is already supported, but in need of work, then start with Spanish. If not, then choose any other translated Language (say, German).

(2) Use git to pull the GIMP documentation in both English and your

chosen

language.

(3) Build and view both English and your chosen language.

(4) Identify the correlation between English and the translated version.

This, at least is a start from which you can work. Note that you do not require any special account because you are not committing changes at

this

point, you are only pulling, building, and reading.

Which items are you able to accomplish?

Is that reason enough to top post with a full quote of the mailing-list digest? Let alone not changing the subject to something meaningful ?

If you want to participate in a mailing-list, then please do not use the digest. And please try to stick to the rules and that includes spending a little effort on quoting correctly. The rules are explained at http://www.gimp.org/mail_lists.html by the way.

Thanks, Sven
