Help files installation - y/n?

I've just updated my GIMP with the newest version 2.6.3 - the automatical, self-installing Windows one - and then managed to finally track down the much-mention but rarely ever linked gimp-help pack, and downloaded the two split .tar files. After unpacking them with 7zip I found lots of files with no
extensions and only my NFO reader seems to make readable sense of some, but the INSTALLER starts off with referencing 'installing as usual' which loses me
completely, as I didn't even install my GIMP, it did that part on its own.

My question is, are these help files (for ver. 2.4) even still viable (for ver 2.6), and, if yes, is there an idiots guide to installing them posted somewhere? (I don't have continuous 'net access so offline help files would be
the big it for me.)

I checked the comments in the previous post about these files from Oct. 31st =>
http://www.gimpusers.com/forums/gimp-docs/10731-Installing-GIMP-help-files.html

but didn't find a conclusive answer among them.

Any help for this total not-nerd would be muchly appreciated.

What .tar files did you download and why didn't you just grab the help installer for Windows from http://gimp-win.sourceforge.net/stable.html ?

Hey there,

Where do you downloaded the *.tar files and where the self installing

windows package?

I got the self installing GIMP 2.6.3 here => http://gimp.org/downloads/ (or here => http://downloads.sourceforge.net/gimp-win/gimp-2.6.3-i686-setup.exe specifically) and the help files from the link on the same page (i.e. here => ftp://ftp.gimp.org/pub/gimp/help/ - the two .bz2 files that combine into one .tar).

Does that help you any?

Take care,

Debris
