Gimp-help-2.4 : abandoned languages, deprecated

What do we do with the text of abandoned languages in xml files? Do we delete it or mark it with ?
gimp-help has become so huge that deleting seems the best solution.

I started updating some files to en;fr: what must I do with obsolete texts in other languages : keep, mark them as deprecated or delete them? Sometimes, the xml structure has to be change. In this case, deleting is also the best solution, the file becomes messy otherwise.

Hi,

how about simply disabling the language in the root element of each .xml file? Additionally a comment could be put into the section history.

Greetings, lexA

If there are changes in the xml structure, file will result somewhat messy...

And what do we do with obsolete images? Some languages use the "en" image. If I
create a new 'en' image, I must give it another name if I keep the old one.

dialogs/brushes-dialog.xml is a good example for that kind of problems.

true, but what are the alternatives?

No, I do not see why we should preserve the old images. Just let the abandoned languages use new versions of the screenshot if they appear.

btw. which languages are we about to abandon anyway??

Keep as much as possible of the active languages. Delete obsolete text from them
if this text creates too many, time wasting, problems with a new XML structure.
Delete non active languages as determined by the last configure.ac : cs hr zh_CN no longer exist in it.

I'm not sure if we should really do that. I think most of the content of the (current) abandoned languages is still valid and in my opinion we should carry them further until GIMP 2.6.

If we remove most of the translations, authors have to start again translating the text and we have the work removing those languages.

In my opinion, we should ignore the 'abandoned' translations. It might makes sense to delete the translation if you make huge structural changes.

Greetings,
